WOW this was different, cool and interesting. got together with a bunch of guys I don't know this morning for FPV flying and hanging-out. Turns out flying 5.8g video is not such a great thing with 5 other guys constantly turn on VTX's on the same frequency. Scarry as hell. but still had a great day. More pictures after the break.
I probably should have been up earlier this morning, the Meetup website told me the meet started at 9am, and I did not get there until about 10, there were already about 20 cars scattered around on the lot, along with a gazillion RC devices. fixed wings, multi-rotors, and cars just to complete the picture.
Without a doubt the most expensive aircraft must have been the Draganfly X6, first time I ever have seen on up close in person. I was blown away by how quiet and smooth it was, the thing is maybe 1000g - less than my phantom with camera, the props are huge and slow moving, so the sound is a whus compared to the din of most multi-rotors. The remote is full featured with telemetri on the color touch screen in the middle of the radio. a VERY impressive aircraft.
Personally, I brough my Phantom and the Hoten-X, I left the s800 and the Y6 at home because I simply do not feel comfortable flying those heavy devices around a whole bunch of people. I got a little flying in at the begining of the day, but gave up quickly because it turns out to be virtually impossible to fly when 4-5 people is constantly turning on radio's on the same video frequency Im using.
Take-away. WOW. it is hugely awesome to hang out with a bunch of FPV geeks. really, the folks here are all soo incredible knowledgable, peple who have flown for decades and rocks LOS flying, and naturally a bunch of very cool FPV aircrafts.
BUT, and there is a HUGE BUT. as much as I loathe rules, meets like this MUST have rules. there were a couple of crashes, nothing worrysome, Personaly I gave up flying FPV because it was not possible to known for sure that I had the frequency for the duration of the flight, and several times I would suddenly see another guys OSD flash into my image.. Scarry as hell guys. But Im definately down for more meetup's - lets figure the video transmitter decipline out first hu.?
Hey Bo,
Let me know when the next meetup is or if a few others want to fly angeles crest etc let me know. I.m on 5.8 and fat sharks though haha.
